Canada approves historic life-saving stem-cell drug for children
red bottoms Canada has become the first country to greenlight the world's first approved drug that has stem cells as its active ingredient, offering hope to children suffering from an extremely painful disease that kills up to 80 percent of children affected. "I am very proud of the leadership role Canada has taken in advancing stem cell therapy and particularly gratified that this historic decision benefits children who would otherwise have little hope," said Andrew Daly, M.D., Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine and Oncology at the University of Calgary, Canada, according to a press release. As the National Institutes of Health explains, the immune system, as the body's tool to fight infection and disease, works by seeing harmful cells as "foreign" and attacking them. When children receive a donor's stem cells (the "graft"), their job is to recreate the donor's immune system in the child's body (the "host"). The New York Times says, graft versus host disease (GvHD), the leading cause of transplant related deaths, is the term used when immune cells contained within transplanted bone marrow see the recipient's organs as foreign and attack them, causing potentially severe damage to the skin, liver and digestive tract. Doctors try using steroids to stop the attack, but they only have a success rate of 30-50 percent, which is why many children can die within just weeks of diagnosis, the press release states. In Canada, Prochymal is now authorized for the management of acute GvHD in children who fail to respond to steroids. Prochymal, developed by Osiris Therapeutics, is an intravenous formulation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which are derived from the bone marrow of healthy adult donors between the ages of 18 and 30 years.
cheap red bottom shoesThe MSCs are selected from the bone marrow and grown in culture so that up to 10,000 doses of Prochymal can be produced from a single donor. Because these are adult stem cells, they do not raise the ethical concerns of embryonic stem cells, whose creation usually involves the destruction of human embryos, Reuters adds. As the New York Times notes, stem cells are already used in medicine. Bone marrow or stem cell transplants are used to treat various cancers and genetic diseases. But those transplants are medical procedures, not products sold by a drug company. "As a result of Health Canada's comprehensive review, physicians now have an off-the-shelf stem cell therapy in their arsenal to fight GvHD. Much like the introduction of antibiotics in the late 1920's, with stem cells we have now officially taken the first step into this new paradigm of medicine," Daly said, Principal Investigator in the clinical program for Prochymal. "Today is not only a great day for Osiris, but for everyone involved in the responsible development of stem cell therapies," said C. Randal Mills, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Osiris. "Most importantly, today is a great day for children and their families who bravely face this horrific disease. While today marks the first approval of a stem cell drug, now that the door has been opened, it will surely not be the last." Mills said Thursday that the Food and Drug Administration indicated that it would require more data before approval, prompting Osiris to seek approval in Canada first, according to the Times. He said the company would apply to the F.D.A. later this year.
red bottom shoesComputers automatically aborted the countdown Saturday for SpaceX's first commercial flight to the International Space Station, scrubbing the launch a half-second before liftoff of the Falcon 9 rocket. Higher-than-allowable pressure inside one of the Falcon 9's first stage main engines were detected after ignition as flames and smoke erupted around the base of the 15-story rocket at 4:55 a.m. EDT (0855 GMT). As engineers studied what went wrong, the SpaceX launch team began draining kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants from the two-stage rocket. There was no time to attempt a second countdown Saturday because the Falcon 9 had only a near-instantaneous window to launch and reach the space station. And in order to preserve fuel for test maneuvers on the way to the complex, SpaceX only has launch opportunities on certain days. The next try will come no sooner than Tuesday at 3:44 a.m. EDT (0744 GMT). After inspections later Saturday, engineers decided to swap out a faulty check valve in engine No. 5, which lies in the center position on the Falcon 9's tic-tac-toe pattern of nine Merlin first stage engines. "Today's launch was aborted when the flight computer detected slightly high pressure in the engine 5 combustion chamber," SpaceX said in a statement. "We have discovered root cause and repairs are underway." "During rigorous inspections of the engine, SpaceX engineers discovered a faulty check valve on the Merlin engine," company spokesperson Kirstin Brost Grantham said in a statement Saturday evening. "We are now in the process of replacing the failed valve." SpaceX expected to complete the repairs Saturday night and continue analysis Sunday. The last-second abort Saturday came after a smooth overnight countdown. SpaceX is seeking to become the first private company to launch a spacecraft to berth with the International Space Station.
Finches learn even when practice isn't perfect
gucci outletBirds can master new skills without the gradual improvements that normally occur with training. The improvement is all down to an ancient part of the brain that is present in all vertebrate species.Learning complex motor skills such as speech or dance movements involves imitation and trial and error. Young songbirds, for example, learn to sing by copying an adult tutor, and practising the song thousands of times until they have perfected every syllable. The underlying brain mechanisms are unknown, but one influential model1 states that structures called the basal ganglia generate a variety of movement patterns that are tried out by the motor cortex, which executes the movements. The basal ganglia then reinforce the best pattern by transmitting a rewarding dopamine signal after receiving feedback on the result of the movement from the motor cortex. But research published today in Nature2 challenges this view.Jonathan Charlesworth, a neuroscientist at the University of California, San Francisco, and his colleagues trained Bengalese finches (Lonchura striata domestica) to modify the pitch of one song syllable in response to white noise.During the training, the researchers used a drug to block the output of the bird's anterior forebrain pathway (AFP), a bundle of nerve fibres that forms a loop circuit between the basal ganglia and motor cortex. The blocking prevented the gradual improvement that would normally occur as the birds practised, so despite trying, the finches did not manage to modify their song. Instead, they continued to produce it at the original pitch. But when the researchers unblocked the AFP output after training, the birds immediately produced an expert performance at the modified pitch
gucci shoes outletInactivating the AFP completely during the training prevented any learning from taking place at all. This indicates that activity in the AFP is essential for learning motor skills, and that the pathway can covertly learn to execute a new skill without contributing to the practice and without feedback from the motor cortex. The findings suggest that basal ganglia circuits monitor the variations in behaviour and then direct the motor cortex to execute the most successful ones"Our earlier work indicated that the nervous system keeps track of fine-grained fluctuations in behavioural variation and uses them for trial-and-error learning," says Charlesworth. "These new results suggest that the basal ganglia learn rapidly and train the motor cortex, which appears to be a repository where the learning is consolidated."The basal ganglia probably receive detailed information about behavioural variations from the premotor cortex, which plans the movements. Because the birds' performance improved immediately when the AFP output was unblocked, the researchers deduce that activity in the basal ganglia is precisely synchronized with that in the motor system."This study represents an important step in identifying brain mechanisms that mediate trial-and-error behavioural learning," says Richard Mooney, a neurobiologist at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. "It suggests that the basal ganglia can learn how to improve behaviour even when they are prevented from changing it. This stands in contrast to the popular idea that the basal ganglia must actively drive variability for trial-and-error learning to occur."The basal ganglia have been highly conserved by evolution, and serve similar functions in every vertebrate species. In humans, problems with basal ganglia function are characteristic of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.
gucci handbags outlet "We hope that our findings will help clinicians to interpret the symptoms of these disorders and help scientists to develop more effective treatments," says Charlesworth.Charlesworth adds that he is building on the white-noise interference method to develop ultrasound neuromodulation. This could potentially be used to alter the activity of deep brain structures such as the basal ganglia, facilitating non-invasive treatments for neurological disease and improving cognitive function. A month ago, Jason Dufner was a single man still in search of his first PGA Tour title. Life has certainly changed for the 35-year-old.With a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole of the Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday in Irving, Texas, Dufner closed out a one-shot victory over Dicky Pride to win for the second time in four weeks. "You couldn't dream it any better," Dufner said. "The wedding has been in the works for close to a year, so we know that's been coming around the corner. There's been a lot of good golf since then, but to win two events and get married in the span of 22 days, pretty remarkable." Dufner got his first victory April 29 at New Orleans, then got married the next week. Now he has won again, this time making $1.17 million. His closing birdie wrapped up a 3-under 67 round for an 11-under 269 to avoid a playoff with Pride. Pride, whose only tour win came in 1994, was at 10 under with a par-saving 22-foot putt at No. 18 for a round of 67 after hitting his drive into the water. Dufner, playing in the final group with J.J. Henry, then made his putt on virtually the same line. "Apparently that was not a very difficult putt on 18, from the long right," Pride said chuckling. Henry (68), who doubled bogeyed the par-3 17th, tied Joe Durant (65), Marc Leishman (66) and Jonas Blixt (66) for third at 271. LPGA Tour: Azahara Munoz is never going to forget her first tour win.
www.italianluxurysale.com She beat Candie Kung 2 and 1 to capture the Sybase Match Play Championship in Gladstone, N.J., a title that was set up when Morgan Pressel was penalized for slow play while in control of their semifinal match. Munoz and Pressel were warned about slow play after nine holes and put on the clock after No. 11. The 12th hole changed everything. Pressel won it with a par to take a 3-up lead. But before she could tee off on No. 13, tour official Doug Brecht informed her she was being penalized for slow play. She had taken 2:09 to play her three shots, 39 seconds over the 30-second limit per shot. In match play, a time penalty is the loss of the previous hole and that handed the admittedly slower-playing Munoz the hole. She was 1 down and back in the match. "What bothers me the most is that we were given sufficient warning and she really didn't do anything to speed up and then I was penalized for it," said Pressel, who was on the verge of tears after beating Vicky Hurst 2 and 1 in the consolation match. The time penalty was Pressel's first in seven years on the tour."Both of us were slow and she was the only one getting penalized, and that was not fair," said Munoz, who won $375,000.Pressel lost the semifinal when she bogeyed Nos. 16 and 17. European Tour: Nicolas Colsaerts handled fierce winds to top Graeme McDowell 1 up in the World Match Play final in Casares, Spain.
'Avengers' sinks 'Battleship' to remain No. 1
red bottom heelsThe Avengers" continues to muscle out everything else Hollywood throws at it, easily sinking naval rival "Battleship" and other new releases. With $55.1 million domestically, Disney's superhero sensation remained No. 1 for a third-straight weekend and took in more than the three big newcomers combined. Overseas, "The Avengers" added an additional $56 million. The film is approaching the $1.2 billion mark worldwide, totaling $457.1 million domestically and $723.3 million internationally. "'The Avengers' is dominating the marketplace so profoundly that the newcomers are having a tough time breaking in now," said Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. Universal's "Battleship" opened a distant No. 2 with $25.4 million domestically, well below industry expectations. But the board-game adaptation starring Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Rihanna already has grossed $226.8 million overseas since launching in April, giving it a worldwide total of $252.1 million. "I would be glad to be No. 2 if we opened to a better number. But given the presence of an absolute juggernaut in the marketplace, there's nothing you can do," said Nikki Rocco, head of distribution for Universal. "Not to have a shot at being No. 1 this weekend is disappointing. But it's a challenge with 'Avengers' out there." Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy "The Dictator," in which he plays a tyrannical third-world leader, debuted in third-place with $17.4 million for the weekend. Since opening Wednesday, the Paramount release has taken in $24.5 million. "The Dictator" opened with $30.3 million in 29 overseas markets, giving it a worldwide haul of $54.8 million.
red bottom shoesParamount executives said they were happy with that start, but even a movie aiming for laughs had some trouble making in-roads against "The Avengers." "This is a full-out comedy, very different than 'Avengers.' But when you've got a movie that big, it just absolutely sucks up the marketplace," said Anthony Marcoly, head of international distribution for Paramount. "But it's also good for the entire business. Hopefully, those that see 'Avengers' will go, 'Hey, I want to see another movie,' and hopefully, they'll think of our movie as a next choice." Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's vampire romp "Dark Shadows," which opened in second-place a week earlier, slipped to No. 4 with $12.8 million. The Warner Bros. release lifted its domestic total to $50.9 million, a weak result compared to the previous Depp-Burton blockbusters "Alice in Wonderland" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Lionsgate's pregnancy comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting," featuring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, premiered at No. 5 with $10.5 million. "The Avengers" and the newcomers were unable to maintain Hollywood's sizzling start to the summer season. Overall domestic revenues totaled $144 million, down 14 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" opened with $90.2 million, according to Hollywood.com. At $1.18 billion worldwide, "The Avengers" climbed to the No. 4 spot on the all-time charts, trailing only "Avatar" ($2.8 billion), "Titanic" ($2.2 billion) and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" ($1.3 billion). Domestically, "The Avengers" at $457.1 million is No. 6 all-time but will quickly pass "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" ($474.5 million) and the original "Star Wars" ($460.9 million) to take the No. 4 spot. "Avatar" is No. 1 domestically at $760.5 million, followed by "Titanic" at $658.5 million and "The Dark Knight" at $533.3 million.
red sole shoesFactoring in today's higher admission prices, many older movies sold more tickets than "The Avengers," which also has a price advantage because of the extra few dollars it costs to see the 3-D version. But the Marvel Comics superhero ensemble has proved an overwhelming lure, drawing in all audience segments and packing in some fans who are seeing it over and over. "It's a contagious thing that gets not just them back, but their friends back to see it again," said Dave Hollis, head of distribution for Disney. "I'm always happy to see a friendly competition among friends to see who can see the movie the most times." Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday. After disappearing for more than week, Nick Stahl resurfaced and checked himself into rehab Saturday night, his wife Rose tells E! It was his first correspondence since Rose had last seen her estranged husband on May 9. She reported him missing to the LAPD on May 14.Stahl and his wife have been separated since January, according to court papers filed by Rose in February. In those papers, Rose asked a judge to limit Stahl's visitations with their two-year-old daughter, Marlo, to eight supervised hours a week. She also asked that Stahl take a drug and alcohol test in the previous 24 hours before seeing their daughter to prove he was sober.
Billboard Music Awards 2012: Justin Bieber and Katy Perry Among Early Winners

"Modern Family" stars Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen hosted the event, showing footage of their rapping a song which was bleeped out a lot and cracking a joke about Taylor Swift doing the running man. Invited to the stage as the first winner of the evening was Justin Bieber. The Canadian teen star was announced by Julianne Hough as a recipient for Top Social Artist, beating such competitors as Eminem, Lady GaGa, Rihanna and Shakira. "First of all, I just want to say how much of a blessing it's been the past three or four years, just growing up in front of everybody," he said. Bieber continued, "I just want to thank all my fans because, you know, the internet is where I got my start and all my fans have helped me get to this position." He also gave shout-out to his manager Scooter Braun and thanked his mentor Usher "for not only saying, 'Okay, I can sign him and just let him be' but instead he takes the time to really care." After having a moment of silence to remember Bee Gees' Robin Gibb who just passed away, the awards show continued by announcing the next winner. Lisa Marie Presley took the stage to present Katy Perry with Spotlight Award. "This is cool! They told me the only other person who's received this award is Michael Jackson, so I feel incredibly honoured to be in the same category - although I don't compare at all!" she gushed.

gucci shoes for menBedside manner is overrated. Despite a tactless, cantankerous demeanor, Gregory House has been a welcome TV guest since 2004.House has enjoyed a healthy eight-season run that included audiences of 20 million and more at its peak, four Emmy nominations for best drama and six for star Hugh Laurie.Tonight, Fox wraps up Dr. House's tale with a two-hour goodbye (8 ET/PT) divided between a retrospective and the final episode.Laurie, who created one of the more captivating characters of recent times, shares his viewers' sentiment: "I like him." But why like a guy whose behavior can be downright antisocial, whether he's dealing with patients with mysterious, bizarre (though often surprisingly curable) symptoms, or colleagues on the elite diagnostic team he heads at Princeton Plainsboro Hospital?"First of all, he's funny. That's an important ingredient to the way his mind works, professionally as well as emotionally. He's also entertaining, which explains why the character Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) tolerated him for so long," says Laurie, enjoying a breezy afternoon on a balcony terrace at the Chateau Marmont hotel."And there's something defiant about House. He just wouldn't bend to conventional demands of good manners or authority. He also wouldn't bend to fear of death or loneliness," Laurie says. "For all his morbid self-destructiveness, I tend to think there is something full of life about House."The unsentimental House has been a totally different kind of TV doctor, nothing like the avuncular Marcus Welby, the heroic Doug Ross of ER or the earnest young surgeons of Grey's Anatomy. You wouldn't see any of them start to strangle a patient with his own medication line, as House did in last week's episode.
gucci belts uk saleBut patients will put up with a lot when a doctor has House's success rate. In a recent episode, a hospital pathologist demanded to be treated by House, based on his track record.House's weaknesses, including an addiction to Vicodin and chronic leg pain that causes him to limp, helped humanize him, says Englishman Laurie, who perfected the limp and an American accent for the role. "Sympathetic instincts are aroused when you see people who are in pain. You want to heal them or protect them in some way." From a different angle, series creator David Shore says, "He's a 15-year-old boy. He just does what he wants to do, which is a very attractive thing. We worked very hard to make it smart and funny, and Hugh is unbelievable in that role. I can give all the credit in the world to Hugh - and I am."One of those immature stunts - clogging the hospital's toilets with paper, causing damage to an MRI machine - puts House in a predicament in the finale, as his parole for an earlier act of destruction is revoked and he is ordered back to jail. He is supposed to serve six months, one more than the life expectancy of best friend James Wilson, an oncologist who has cancer."House is faced with a very difficult situation with Wilson, and he assesses what his future should or will be. How does he deal with that?" Shore says. House has "always been a good friend. I like the fact that we're ending the series focusing on the House-Wilson relationship."Strong characters such as Wilson and Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) make House a better character, he says. "He's only as good as the people who battle him. ... Any time somebody went toe-to-toe with House and won, and Lisa did that as often as anybody, it was great."
gucci hats uk saleOver the years, House dueled with other able colleagues, including Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer), Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley (Olivia Wilde) and Dr. Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson). They put up with a lot of grief, some humorous, some less so, to bask in his genius. (Morrison and Wilde will appear in the finale, as will Amber Tamblyn, who played med student Martha Masters, and Kal Penn, whose character, Lawrence Kutner, killed himself.)"They thought he was brilliant, and they were just sponges soaking it up," Epps says. "Certain people and departments are above and beyond the rest in their field. House was that guy. The core of House represented the truth. He was always trying to get to the truth of the matter. That's one of the reasons people responded to the character."Foreman, who became the hospital's dean of medicine during the run of the show, "tried to keep him within the boundaries of reality," Epps says. "House has a childlike quality, in that he's forever curious, and I think Foreman echoed the audience in the sense of: 'Hey, you can't do this in the real world.' "If House the character has demanded more from an audience than the typical TV hero, so has House the series. "It was about something. It tackled ethics and morals and existential questions of religion, sex, love and marriage. It took on a great many things," Laurie says."It aspired to take on big ethical questions: Is it worth using bad means to achieve a good end? What are you prepared to sacrifice to achieve a desired outcome? How much are you prepared to pay in psychic and moral terms to achieve good results?" he says. "House is a character and an idea that tried to test those limits."
gucci outlet ukHouse premiered Nov. 16, 2004, to modest ratings, starting well short of hit status. "I just wanted a large enough audience so I could keep telling my stories," Shore says.He got far more. Fox backed House in its early struggles, eventually giving it the prime slot after TV's most-watched show, American Idol. House's audience boomed, and it became one of TV's top hits. In its peak season, 2006-07, the show averaged 19.3 million viewers. The numbers have slipped in recent years, and the show is averaging 8.6 million viewers this season.Shore, with Laurie and executive producer Katie Jacobs, decided to end the show this season because of uncertainties about the future in such matters as budgets and casting."My worry was, if it's not going to get resolved in time, and it was looking like it wasn't going to get resolved in time, we're going to wind up not being able to end the series the way we want," Shore says. "If we can't do it the way we want to do it, let's go out while we're still feeling good about it."The time feels right to Laurie, too. "You cannot have a character on the ledge threatening to jump forever, because at some point the crowd gathered below is going to start to drift away. The guy's got to jump or climb back into the building."Will viewers see that in the finale? "You probably will. House reaches a point at which he physically and emotionally confronts the question of to be or not to be. Well, I suppose I shouldn't tell you which way he goes," Laurie says, pausing. "You can probably guess."
Jenkins, Levy, Driver in Dancing With The Stars 2012 final
abercrombie uk The Mirror Ball Trophy will find a new home this week with either William Levy, Donald Driver, or Katherine Jenkins as the winner of Season 14 of "Dancing With The Stars." The two-part finale begins Monday, May 21, with the final competition dance and crowning of the winner on Tuesday, May 22. Each of the couples will perform two dances Monday night. First is a dance chosen by the judges from previous performances this season, one the judges believe will show improvement over the course of competition. The couples are allowed to include new music and new choreography.Donald Driver let his Twitter fans know that he and Peta Murgatroyd will be dancing the Argentine Tango. It was a bit of a lift fest the first time, taking advantage of Driver's strength and precision. If Murgatroyd is smart, she will incorporate a little more footwork to show Driver's finesse and timing. This dance was badly underscored by Len Goodman the first time around (what else is new?), so he's the one these two need to impress.William Levy and Cheryl Burke have drawn the cha cha. It was his lowest scoring dance of the season with a 24. But it can be a simple dance and this seems to play up Levy's obvious strengths rather than asking to see improvement. He may get the judges' scores but will this obvious favoritism backfire with the fans? The call-back dance for Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas hadn't been revealed as of Sunday afternoon, but if it's based on score it might be their Rock Week paso doble, which was also a 24 and their lowest score of the season. This would present the greatest challenge to Jenkins who is more at home with the ballroom dances.
abercrombie and fitch ukThe second dance is the highlight of the season for many fans, the freestyle dance. Each couple can choose whatever music they like and there are no rules for the performance at all. This is where the choices and not the skills can make or break the star's chances of winning. Cheryl Burke killed Gilles Marini's chances of winning when they performed to "Flashdance," a horrible mistake. Longtime fans are still shaking their heads over Marie Osmond's Chucky-doll freestyle. The three pros need to play to their star's strengths, make it challenging but not so difficult that there are any obvious mistakes, and not do "too much messing about" as Len Goodman is fond of saying. The dances need to be crowd pleasing so the fans will be energized and vote. After the one-hour performance show on Monday, the couples will come back and dance one last routine on Tuesday night, the "24 Hour Challenge." Competitors will be given music right after Monday night's show, and must then come up with a dance of their choice. The routine will be scored on the same 30-point system as the other dances this season, so the judges get the final say. It's not clear whether all three finalists compete on Tuesday, or just the top two, and how the judges' scores will be combined with fan votes.Who will win? Katherine Jenkins seems the long shot. Technically she is the best dancer with beautiful stretched legs and spot-on timing. But the best technician doesn't always win. Her inclusion in the final didn't sit well with a lot of Maria Menounos fans, who felt she earned the third spot in the final (including me). It's doubtful Maria's fans will vote for Jenkins; expect these votes to be split between the two remaining competitors.
abercrombie outletWilliam Levy has devoted fans, and the judges love him. He's a reliable performer and as long as Cheryl Burke doesn't do anything crazy with the freestyle, he will do well. He has a compelling personal story and it's hard not to root for Levy to do well.Donald Driver has shown the greatest improvement over the course of the season, and has been chronically underscored by the judges. Professional athletes do well on the show due in large part to their competitive drive, and football players have done extremely well. Emmitt Smith and Hines Ward both won in their seasons, and Jerry Rice, Jason Taylor and the improbable Warren Sapp all came in second. If the Packer Nation mobilizes with a lot of votes, it will help if his scores are low (again) this week. Driver is a crowd pleaser and sensational performer, which will serve him extremely well in the freestyle where he can let his personality loose. Peta Murgatroyd is promising lots of lifts and tricks, which the fans will love. It's hard to bet against Driver to peak at just the right time, and take home a Mirror Ball Trophy to put next to his Vince Lombardi Trophy at home.Pros Tristan McManus and Val Chmerkoskiy have both predicted that Donald Driver will win.Whatever happens, it's sure to be an exciting, fun to watch show. Make it even more fun by joining our Communities live chat at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Don't be late: the show is only one hour long this week"Dancing With the Stars" returns for the final week of the competition on Monday night, May 21, 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time, on the ABC Television Network.

Roth left the band in 1985 to start a solo career after similar personality clashes with the Van Halens but reunited with them in 2007.In February, the band released its first studio album with Roth in 28 years, "A Different Kind of Truth," and has been touring to support it.Hagar was in Atlantic City at his Sammy's Beach Bar on the Boardwalk, where he donated $10,000 to St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for its food pantry. He said he tries to donate to food banks in each city he visits while on tour with his current band, Chickenfoot. "They make the money go so far," he said of the food pantries. "They can get 2 1/2 meals out of a dollar!"
abercrombie saleMonsignor William Hodge said he's grateful for Hagar's donation, which will be used to fatten the grocery bags of the hundreds of people who come to the church's food pantry twice a week, many of whom work low-wage jobs but still don't have enough to eat."Some families come to us with six to eight children," Hodge said. "We'll make sure there's plenty of meat in their bags of groceries." Three young men were arraigned Sunday in the assault and carjacking of popular Detroit pastor and gospel singing icon Marvin Winans. The office of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy identified the suspects as Detroit residents Montoya Givens and Christopher Moorehead, both 20, and Brian K. Young, 18, of Macomb County's Clinton Township. They are charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery and conspiracy, said Maria Miller, Worthy's spokeswoman. The men appeared in Detroit's 36th District Court and were ordered held on $200,000 bonds. Their preliminary examinations, in which a judge decides where there's enough evidence for the case to go to trial, are June 1.A prosecutor's spokeswoman said Sunday she didn't think the defendants had lawyers yet.Winans, 54, was attacked Wednesday afternoon while pumping gas in Detroit. The robbers took his sport utility vehicle, Rolex watch, cash and credit cards."This is just an example of the diligence that our officers put forth when investigating criminal cases," police Chief Ralph Godbee said in a statement Sunday.Worthy said she also was pleased with closing the case, but got in a dig at the effectiveness of Detroit police. She said she was "buoyed by the fact that this case was well investigated by the police and that we were able to charge this case quickly.
